When it comes to skin care, you already know clear and healthy skin is the topic of the last couple of years. Now, I have been a skin care fanatic since been but I love the fact that so many others, men and women, are taking their skin care seriously. I mean, it’s only your largest organ – why not take great care of it?
Many of you have heard of the 10 step skin care routine and I was certainly questioned whether is was truly necessary. Before we get into the if it is worth it, let’s get into what it is for those who may not know. Prepare to take notes here.
The 10 step skin care routine is as follows:
STEP 1: OIL/CREAM CLEANSE
STEP 2: FOAM CLEANSE
STEP 3: EXFOLIATE
STEP 4: APPLY A FACE MASK
STEP 5: USE A HYDRATING TONER
STEP 6: APPLY AN ESSENCE
STEP 7: ADD A SERUM
STEP 8: APPLY EYE CREAM
STEP 9: MOISTURIZE
STEP 10: APPLY A NIGHT MASK
Did you get all that? Now, before you close out this post because it seems like too much, hear me out. Do I think it is necessary to do all 10 steps? Yes – but not daily. You can choose to do them all daily but depending on which exfoliant and masks you are using, you may not be able to do those items daily due to stripping and damaging the skin. We will get back to that another day so I can stay on track here.
I am certain many of you are asking, what is the purpose of all this? Short answer, to keep the skin thoroughly clean, healthy and youthful. The 10 step system is all about hydration and moisture which keeps wrinkles at bay by making the skin plump. Let’s break down each step, shall we?
STEP 1: OIL/CREAM CLEANSE – this breaks down any makeup, sweat, excess oils in the skin. Oil attracts oil so using an oil cleaner will help to pull out the oil and debris trapped in the pores.
STEP 2: FOAM CLEANSE – this is an insurance cleanse. Once the oil, makeup, and whatnot is off the skin, the foam cleanser will get down in those pores to really get the skin clean, minimizing breakouts.
STEP 3: EXFOLIATE – get rid of dead skin here. Dead skin can keep your pores trapped with debris and add texture to the skin. Eliminating the dead skin will allow all the next items to seep into the skin properly so they can work.
STEP 4: APPLY A FACE MASK – detox the skin or hydrate the skin or treat the skin. There are so many different masks, you can actually do a mask daily as long as it isn’t a clay/detox mask and you switch it up.
STEP 5: USE A HYDRATING TONER – hydration is major in skin care because, water. Always apply a good toner to balance out the pH in your skin and prep for the additional products to come.
STEP 6: APPLY AN ESSENCE – treatment hydrator that keeps the skin soft. Think toner and serum in one.
STEP 7: ADD A SERUM – treatment products are a must. Serums come in ALL forms and having one or two or ten is never too much. Ok, not ten but have at least a good Vitamin C serum for daily use to keep the skin bright and even toned.
STEP 8: APPLY EYE CREAM – `eyes need moisture. The first signs of aging are noticed in the eyes and hands. Keep the eyes youthful with a good eye cream.
STEP 9: MOISTURIZE – Lock in all the hard work you just did with a moisturizer. Yes, you need to hydrate and moisturize. Yes, there is a difference. Yes, I will break down the difference in the next blog post.
STEP 10: APPLY A NIGHT MASK/SUNSCREEN – Last step daily should be sunscreen no matter what – because logic. Nightly, an overnight mask will put that extra moisture deep into the skin to work while you sleep.
I also want to add, this routine will take less than 10 mins. the most will be waiting on the face mask to do its job but applying you can skip that step if you do a night mask UNLESS you are doing a detox mask. It sounds like a lot but it truly isn’t. Give it a try and let me know your thoughts.
